Hidrosis

Hidrosis is a healthy function of a body. Hyperhidrosis can depend on structural conditions (primary hyperhidrosis) or other diseases (secondary hyperhidrosis). It is argued that over warning is experienced in the nerves reaching perspiratory glands of the patients experiencing primary hyperhidrosis problem. The relatives of these patients to experience the same problem supports the argument that the genetic factors have a role in such a problem. Soles, palms, arm pits and face are the parts, where perspiration has generally been experienced much.

What are the diseases causing hidrosis?

  • Metabolism diseases
  • Hormonal disorders
  • Infection diseases
  • Some cancer forms
  • Exercise
  • Stress and psychological problems
  • Nutritional habits
  • Medicines
  • Lung and cardiac diseases
  • Some neurologic diseases may cause hyperhidrosis.
A check-up should be demanded from the patients with hyperhidrosis problem, some tests should be asked in certain conditions. Hidrosis should be taken under control depending on the place and intensity of the perspiration unless any other health problem is found out.

What are the methods used for treatment?
Treatment is applied depending on the body part, where hyperhidrosis is seen and on the intensity of the perspiration.

Local treatments
These are the medicines applied to take the perspiration under control by occluding the perspiratory glands.
Medical treatments through mouth
They are not generally preferred because of the side effects despite their positive impacts seen in some patients.

Iontophoresis
Perspiratory glands are closed temporarily with the electricity current delivered. Application is done with special devices within certain time span for certain periods. It can be applied both in the centers and even at home. Irritation on the skin may be seen as the side effect.

Botox treatment
Botox is injected to the parts with hyperhidrosis in small doses. The conduction is either stopped or decreased in the nerves causing perspiration. Hyperhidrosis ends 2-3 days after the application. The impact of this treatment continues for around 4-6 months, then it starts to be seen again. A light pain may be felt during the application.

Surgical treatments
It should be applied to the patients, who cannot receive any solutions from the other treatments.
There are two different methods. Perspiratory glands resection and endoscopic transthoracic sympathectomy (ETS).
