Allergic Contact Dermatitis

Dermatitis is the inflammation of the epidermis. In contact dermatitis, sensitization is seen after the first allergen contact with the skin and dermatitis arises if the same allergen contact is experienced again. It can be seen at any age. It is generally seen related with the cosmetic products in women and with occupational materials in men.

Cosmetics, soap and detergents, ointment applied to the skin, sunscreens, perfumes, polish, plants are the frequently seen allergy causes. Pruritic reactions, rashes, peeling, dropsy may be seen at the contacted parts. Thickening, incrustation, fissuring of the skin may be experience if the problem in the skin continues because of the mistreatment of the problem. Allergic complaints are seen if the patients continue to have a contact with the allergen after the treatment. Complaints decline spontaneously with the removal of the allergen. The first step of the treatment is the removal of the allergen, however it may be hard to determine this, thus allergy tests should be applied.
